Concrete statue production is a process that combines art and technical skill, resulting in durable and aesthetically pleasing sculptures. Choosing the right mold is a key aspect of quality production. It determines what the product will be like – the accuracy of detailing its curves and various elements.

On the modern market there is a wide variety of materials from which molds are made: metal, wood, etc.. All of them are significantly inferior in their characteristics to fiberglass – it is a composite material, which consists of glass fiber impregnated with polymer resin.

How are fiberglass molds for concrete statues better than other materials?

Characteristic / Material Fiberglass Metal Wood
Durability High High Medium
Corrosion resistance High Low Low
Weight Light Heavy Medium
Longevity High High Medium
Cost High Medium Medium
Resistance to humidity High Low Low
Processing and modeling Easy Difficult Easy
  • As we can see from the table – wood and metal are subject to corrosion and decay – such molds are suitable for just a few removals, after which they become unusable. Fiberglass molds are highly resistant to the external environment, including humidity, chemicals and ultraviolet radiation. This allows them to retain their properties throughout the entire period of operation without loss of quality.
  • Fiberglass molds are much easier to work with and transport due to their light weight. Where a metal one needs two people, a fiberglass mold can be handled by one.
  • It is possible to create a sculpture of a complex shape. Fiberglass molds are easy to model, so the products look detailed.

In our assortment, you will find not only fiberglass molds but also together with polyurethane. This is needed to make the sculpture even more elaborate. Elements such as eyes or lips are best rendered with this material.

Characteristics are perfect for working with concrete: strong, resistant to wear and abrasion, not affected by moisture and the environment, lightweight, and flexible.

There are different molds of concrete statues for sale – large full-length and small. For garden statues, it is important to have a variety to satisfy all sorts of customer needs.

Common mistakes when using fibreglass moulds:

|. Insufficient or no mould release agent.

If insufficient release agent is applied to the mould sides, the process of removing the product from the mould becomes problematic or, in extreme cases, impossible. Also, the demoulding process under such conditions may deform the mould, rendering it unsuitable.

||. Mistakes when assembling the moulds:

  • Lack of sealing layer: Unsealed mould joints may cause concrete leakage and lead to defects in the finished product;
  • Over-tightening of the fixing: can lead to deformation of the mould, distortion of the product itself and rapid mould failure. The recommended working pressure with a pneumatic tool is 5/6 bar. When screeding the mould, make sure that the mould flange is clean and free of concrete or other dirt particles that could cause cracks or gaps in the mould assembly flange.

|||. Incorrect disassembly of the mould.

Improper mould demoulding – is the process of removing the finished concrete product from the mould in violation of technology and instructions. It is necessary to strictly follow the procedure recommended by the manufacturer.

|\/. Use of non-professional vibration tools.

  • The concrete moulds for garden statues are designed to work on a vibrating table or with a portable depth vibrator, do not use a punch or other non-purpose tools.
  • Conduct vibration evenly over the entire area of the mould.

General Recommendations:

  1. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions;
  2. Before the first pour, the mould should be disassembled, cleaned of all contaminants and wax deposits removed.
  3.  use sealing tape;
  4. Remember to grease the moulds before each pour;
  5. When assembling the concrete moulds for garden ornaments, the bolts must be tight enough to prevent them from leaking concrete;
  6. At the same time, overtightening the bolts can lead to deformation of the mould, distortion of the product itself and rapid mould failure;
  7. Reinforcement of the products is at your discretion. It all depends on your recipe and where your product will be used;
  8. Use only professional tools to compact the concrete mix into the mould.  ( or use a mortar that does not require vibration for compaction );
  9. Follow the recommended setting conditions for concrete;
  10. Observe the order of disassembly of the moulds depending on the type of mould.
